5 Tips for Choosing a Successful Research Paper Topic

No matter how excellent your writing is per se, you won’t go far without a good topic – experienced students know that when you’ve chosen the topic correctly, it does half of the work for you. Let’s take a look at how it is done.

1. Write About What You Are Interested In

People always write better when their heart is in it. Find a topic you have a passionate opinion about and just let the words flow.

Look for Ideas in Current Events

Even the least exciting disciplines can be made interesting if the roots of your paper go into some important event that just happened.

Know Your Teacher’s Preferences

If you know for sure that your teacher is interested in a particular topic – why not humor him/her?

Choose Something You Know About

The next best thing after writing about what you are interested in is writing on the topic you know all about. It can give you this so much needed extra edge.

Don’t Overgeneralize

Your topic should be precise and rather narrow – after all, it is a small paper, not a dissertation.

Write about something that really grabs your attention and that will make you want to learn more about it. Like for example, if you were born some place else other than United States then you can be interested in writing about your culture like for example Argentina, or Chile, or Brazil.

Some good topics are stem cell research and designer babies. Is it right to “play God” as some people call it? “My Sister’s Keeper” is a good reference book and a good read if you have some time on your hand’s.

Yes be sure that the topic you are doing grabs your attention. I made the mistake of rushing into a research project last year and i failed it. Just take your time and have fun. The rest will fall into place and if it doesn’t dont be affraid to ask your teacher.
